Lyric Theatre and Thelma Gaylord Academy to Offer Summer Music Camps

Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy is offering three summer fun and theatrical camps and workshops for all ages, Camp Monster, Master Class Intensive and Theatre Magic Camp.

Camp Monster is a fun, interactive camp for children ages seven to 14, featuring a new musical "WE ARE MONSTERS". The show follows human kids into a monster cabaret filled with quirky monster characters. The adventurous humans uncover vegetarian vampires and rock n' roll werewolves, gradually realizing there may be more to these monsters than meets the eye. Most importantly these monsters and kids discover the importance of friendship and celebrating in the attributes that make each of us different and unique. Camp dates are June 4 through 15 from 10:00am to 5:00pm while the performances of WE ARE MONSTERS are Saturday, June 16 at 2:00pm and 6:00pm. Auditions for Camp Monster are June 1 at 4:00 to 6:00pm and Saturday, June 2 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy Production Center.  You do not have to currently be enrolled in Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy to audition.  Tuition for Camp Monster is $425.

The Master Class Intensive is for kids between the ages of eight and 18 interested in experiencing various specialized areas of theatrical study. Students will attend two classes each day: stage combat, stage make-up, improvisation, dance and vocal projection.  Instructors for the Master Class Intensive are Lyric staff and guest artists from across the nation performing with Lyric in the 2012 summer shows at the Civic Center Music Hall. Workshop dates are July 23 through 27 and times are 9:00am through 11:00am for ages eight to 12 and 11:00am through 1:00pm for ages 13 to 18.  Tuition for The Master Class is $175.

The last of Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy's summer camps is Theatre Magic Camp.  Theatre Magic Camp is for children ages 5 through 7 who love to be the center of attention. It is a fun introduction to musical theatre where children learn the basics of acting, singing (solo and group) and theatre movement. The class will culminate with a short musical presentation. Theatre Magic Camp dates are July 30 through August 3 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.  Tuition for Theatre Magic Camp is $175.

All of Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy summer camps and workshops will take place at Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy Production Center at 1801 NW 16th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73106.  WE ARE MONSTERS and Theatre Magic Camp performances will take place at Lyric's Plaza Theatre located at 1725 NW 16th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73106.
