The Pollard Theatre Company opens
Tuesdays with Morrie, February 3rd - 25th. Based on the book written by
Mitch Albom, the play is the true story of said writer, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor, who is battling with Lou Gehrig's disease.
Sixteen years have passed since college graduation and Mitch happens to see Morrie's appearance on a television news program talking about his illness. The pair is reunited and a simple reunion turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life for Mitch.
Tuesdays with Morrie is an extraordinary piece of literature that has touched its readers and audiences for over 15 years. The play is directed by James Ong; Mitch is played by Michael Edsel and Morrie is portrayed by James A. Hughes.
This production is a mid-season replacement of the originally scheduled Laughter on the 23rd Floor. The change in schedule was tied to efforts to ensure the organization's continued artistic success while remaining fiscally watchful. "Our primary goal is to make the strongest artistic contribution possible to the Oklahoma arts community. In a year of such economic uncertainty, we felt a more intimate production was called for," said Jermone Stevenson, Artistic Director.
